March 24, 2009. Town Accepts the "Keys to the Turbine".

After pouring through a few large binders of technical and contract information Alex Pichs, AAER Sales Manager for the U.S. Northeast, handed over the keys to the wind turbne generator to Bob Driscoll, Portsmouth Town Administrator. The wind turbine will undergo a shakedown period where AAER engineers will monitor operation and correct any problems. Along with turnover comes a 6 month, 90 percent availablity guarantee followed by an additonal 18 months of 98 percent guaranteed availability for the wind turbine to be ready to generate rated power. That means if the wind turbine is not avaiable to make power, a calculation of the amount of power it would have generated during that time, based on wind, will be determned and the manufacturer will reimburse the town for the revenue that would have been generated during the time of non-availability. The wind turbine comes with a two-year "bumper-to-bumper" warranty after which a maintenance contract with AAER kicks in up to year 10 when an option will be exercised for an additional 10 years to take the maintenance out to the minimum expected life of 20 years. The final payment for the wind turbine will be made by the town, with a holdback of funding to ensure completion of some site restoration work.
